What Is Server Response Time?
Server response time is the origin/network portion of performance before the browser has rendered the page.
Key contributors
Network latency, server queueing, PHP execution, database queries and cache misses all contribute.
Why it matters
A slow origin delays everything that depends on the initial HTML response.
Do not confuse it with page speed
A fast server can still deliver a heavy page that renders slowly.
Improve methodically
Measure TTFB, server utilization and application traces before changing infrastructure.
If hosting is part of the bottleneck
Compare managed WordPress hosting after you have evidence that infrastructure or support scope is limiting the site. Start with our managed WordPress hosting guide or see our WPX review.
